Kia Niro 2017 (DE HEV) Service Manual / Engine Control/Fuel System / Engine Control System / Camshaft Position Sensor (CMPS) Repair procedures

Inspection
1.

Check the signal waveform of the CMPS and CKPS using the KDS/GDS.

Specification: Refer to “Wave Form”

Removal

Do NOT remove the camshaft position sensor with engine running or right after engine stops due to the possibility of scalding from hot engine oil flowing out.

[Bank 1 / Intake]
1.

Switch "OFF" the ignition and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

2.

Remove the air cleaner.

(Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "Air Cleaner")

3.

Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector (A).

4.

Remove the camshaft position sensor after loonsening the mounting bolt (B).

Camshaft position sensor mounting bolt:

7.8 - 11.8 N·m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf·m, 5.7 - 8.7 lb·ft)

[Bank 1 / Exhaust]
1.

Switch "OFF" the ignition and disconnect the negative (-) battery terminal.

2.

Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector (A).

3.

Remove the camshaft position sensor after loonsening the mounting bolt (B).

Camshaft position sensor mounting bolt:

7.8 - 11.8 N·m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf·m, 5.7 - 8.7 lb·ft)

Installation

Install the component to the specified torque.

Note that internal damage may occur when the component is dropped. If the component has been dropped, inspect before installing.

Apply engine oil to the O-ring.

Insert the sensor in the installation hole and be careful not to damage it.

Be careful not to damage the sensor housing and the connector.

Be careful not to damage the O-ring.

1.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
